Care for the Adolescent Male with Perinatally- Acquired HIV
The goal of this module is to introduce learners to care of an adolescent male with perinatally-acquired HIV in order to recognize contextual factors to best support these patients and promote their quality of life.
What you will learn in Module 12
Explain the psychosocial and biomedical impact of perinatally-acquired HIV, and explore inter- professional interventions (IPE) to address these issues
Discuss strategies to address individual, familial, and health systems barriers to retention in care and adherence to ART in adolescents with HIV
Demonstrate effective communication skills with an adolescent patient
Describe strategies to address comorbid depres- sion and substance use in adolescents with HIV
Demonstrate how to refer a patient to a specialist for drug-resistant HIV (IPE)
